I personally never thought to go abroad and make living but in the due course of time and tide, now every year I go abroad. Nonetheless, many of my friends are doing great by staying in Nepal, a handful is abroad making their way of life and contributing nation in a different way. Some have returned soaring there economic conditions which could not have been possible hadn’t they taken a ride in the plane. Today our chief export is a human resource and it single-handedly has been directly contributing more than a quarter in Nepal’s national income. Though it is controversial to make such a remark it’s the bitter truth that Country has to export what it can, and, now for the moment, it seems that we have no other major options of exports. In primeval history, our country was regarded as an exporter of many commodities which is quite unlikely as to run a business in such a difficult terrain must have been very difficult and even if there were any business activities then it was limited just in Kathmandu valley and its surroundings. The fuss often made by our netaz and deshbashiz to creat job, developing education system and many others is just the issues to confuse common folk and derail us to take the flight to fulfill our dreams.
Whatever the religious or political reasons were, Sita and Bhrikuti married to well-settled powerful foreign prince and king. It can be termed as political tactics, but clearly can be deduced that the conditions of both Ayodhya and Tibet must have been better than Janakpur and Nepal then. So, one should stop giving satirical remarks to our fellow sisters when they marry pr or green card holder because that’s the path showed by our great ladies. Fortunately for us, that Lord Buddha was born here, that’s all pride we have until he turned 30, the story changed and deep desire to achieve enlightenment drove him away from his home. Instead of moving inwards to our country why the hell did he go south and achieved everything there, edified and inculcated creeds in the foreign land later the philosophy propounded propagated from a foreign land. If had lived today then he could easily get aadhaar card , would have been casting vote in the world’s biggest democracy. Furthermore, it is very likely that he would have been branding in business or another cult just like our Syangjama janmeko Balkrishna guru. Questions are never raised on why our Everest conqueror born in Nepal died as an Indian. Udit Narayan started a career in Nepal rose to a peak in India consequently his son started to earn in millions. Manisha Koirala came into limelight in India. Well, these are celebrities to name a few, the story of commoners is no difference. All the founding members and members of NRN achieved great affluence abroad. Then we have baideshik rojgar ma jane and student visa ma jane, the majority of which have achieved quite a lot by putting themselves in a plane. The trend is not a sudden one, though in recent years there is a hockey stick trajectory in the number of people who have been trying to make something in a foreign land. Our society in all the recorded chronicles had the custom of working far from home. We had Muglanes and Lahures enchanting lore and chores in a very amicable manner thereby tempting folks by the glittering life they showcased leading the others to go down that path. It is great unjust to the governments in the last decades and now to label them inefficient not to bring the upsurging number of emigrating workers and students under control. One cannot deny the fact that our uncles and aunties are able to take pictures in front of the opera house, London bridge, the statue of liberty, and many more and thanks to our dajubhai and didibahini who made it possible for us to hold expensive i-devices, Android phones and latest gadgets in our palm.
Now, the bygone trend of coming to capital has shifted towards journey overseas, while can be argued about the difficulties and cons of staying away from home but fact is also that there lie numerous benefits of exploring the world. There was a crisis of food and employment once in Norway forcing many Norwegians to emigrate to the USA making space for the one who remained there. Japan, for example, sent many students in different other countries to learn and to spy the technology and the way of life. After getting valuable education, Japs came back and paved the way for the development of their nation. Not long ago few countries who had the technology helped to discover and explore a new world eventually colonizing the new land. Now there is space race and space technology giving us hope and possibility to travel and inhabit new planets. Ok, little fiction but tell a person from 18th century and back about aircraft helping us to travel around the world, you will be pounding your head on the wall to make him understand the science of aerodynamics. Hadn’t the United Kingdom colonized the world, would have been facing a crunch situation without a delay? So, we should start to think in a different perspective, go and colonize other countries wherever it is possible, just remember santaan le daadaakaadaa dhaakun. If we don’t head start now to colonize the vast countries our situation will be just like that of Bangladesh with high population density and do you know that Bengalis are barred to get a work visa in UAE? No doubt we should check the birth rates too. Before the situations of Bangladesh is at our doorstep, act smart and fast learning something from Philippines and Vietnam whose much of progress lies in the endowment of their people working offshore.
Many rich countries are investing in the business in foreign countries, making business deals with various countries. We lack capital for investment even in our boundaries, so investing in a foreign country seems to be a hurdle of herculean size. Making trade deals also cannot ease our pain as we don’t have any significant products and the geopolitical situation further adds woes in our pain as a major factor of our inefficiency in trade and business. Industrializing and trading is farfetched dream due to lack of market access, capital and idea to export goods in India or China have many hindrances like the fact that our goods are more expensive than that of our neighbors, attempt to do such is pulled back by a lack in technology. What we can do is at least for the moment is accumulating enough capital and reserve of foreign currency which now is only possible by the help of foreign employment then investing such capital in high tech specialized industries that can get market. This is the part where Nepalese who get education abroad and the money augmented by remittance can be coupled. So many of us can make living abroad whereas some can return home just like the Japanese returned and contributed in nation-building. Many countries in Arabian Gulf and Scandinavia provide easy student loan and grant if they wish to study abroad encouraging them to return and use their skills. Yes, this is not possible in the case of Nepal but at least government should have proper plans to cash the knowledge of our daju bhai and didi bahini living abroad whereby giving a boost to our economy and each individual can too play their part by just not spending in luxury.
